2015-2016 VCHS Rocketry Development Program
SEPARATION AND RECOVERY | TEAM DEPUTY
The objective of the VCHS Rocketry Development Program is to provide students with the opportunity to design, build, and fly high-powered rockets. As a member of this program, I held the position of separation and recovery team deputy. I organized and led the separation and recovery team to design, develop, and implement a fully functional parachute system fit for a solid-fueled, M-class rocket, resulting in a successful 9,000 feet launch. The separation and recovery team, airframe team, and payload team worked together to engineer the rocket to be aerodynamically stable while containing a telemetry system and functional RATTworks ARRD (advanced retention release device) parachute system.
Software and equipment used in the development of the rocket included the following:
-
3D Printer
-
Fiberglass Fabrication Equipment
-
Tektronix Oscilloscopes and HP Digital Voltmeters
-
RockSim, RAS Aero, ExpressPCB™ , AutoCad Inventor™ and SolidWorks™ CAD software
